CLASSES: Painting & Drawing

We've added Fine Art Classes!  Have you ever said “I can’t draw” or “I’m not creative” – well, as far as we’re concerned, everyone can learn to create.  No matter what age, no matter what you’ve tried in the past, you too can create beautiful works of art!

Basic Drawing I

Get yourself in the mindset to be creative!  In this class you’ll learn to prepare for drawing, use of materials, blocking in basic shapes, creating simple textures, and beginning shading.  This is the place to start your creative process and the techniques learned here can be used in other forms of Fine Arts, Scrapbooking, Craft Making, and more!

Have you ever wondered how to create beautiful watercolors, but just didn’t know how to get started?  Here’s your chance!  We’ll start with a sketch (basic drawing would be useful to have taken beforehand, but not required) and create soft blends, compose dynamic images, and learn special techniques that will refine your painting and take it to the next level.  This technique looks especially beautiful on greeting cards!

Oil I
You’re never too old to learn the timeless technique of Oil Painting!  My grandmother started in her 50’s and created amazing paintings for years.  Oil Paintings are timeless and can be passed throughout the generations.  If you’ve ever wanted to know what the “fuss” was about but didn’t want to take “formal” college classes – now is your chance!  This is a 3-part class where we’ll be covering the basics: preparing to paint, building a good base, conveying mood with color, and understanding light.
Skill Level: Beginner
Class Size: 6-10
Class Fee: $30/class or $75 if all three classes are paid in advance
Supply Fee: $15
Supply Fee includes canvas and paint, as well as use of all studio supplies (paintbrushes, palettes, etc).  Additional supplies can be purchased at Dabble.

Intro to Color
Mixing a variety of colors, learning basic color schemes, applying color formulas, creating color harmony.  This all-day class (with stretch breaks and lunch) will cover all the basics. Any student of art, fiber, or otherwise, needs to have a solid introduction to the Wonderful, Magical World of COLOR! The class design consists of short lectures with boarded illustrations followed by class exercises designed to involve the students personally and to help them absorb the information more fully. Included topics are the history of color, basic terms, the color wheel (you’ll make your own), advanced color terminology, optical illusion, harmony and disharmony, color schemes, choosing colors for yourself, and much, much more.

This is a personal favorite of mine – learning the techniques of perspective.  If you’ve ever wondered how people can draw pictures quickly “on a napkin”, this is the perfect class for you.  We’ll be covering the basics: drawing from different viewpoints, using one-, two-, and three-point perspective, and locating the vanishing points.  The techniques learned in the class will also be use for scrapbooking and several basic crafts projects.
