CLASSES: Sewing & Quilting

Learn to Quilt!
Don’t know anything about quilting, but want to learn???  This is a basic beginner class, from shopping to quilting.  Have you wanted to learn to quilt but were daunted by long supply lists?  Are you lost when the instructions tell you to buy 2 lights, 2 mediums and 2 darks?  This class is for you!  It is a soup-to-nuts approach to quilting for the absolute beginner.  We’ll teach you how to buy your tools, how to select your fabric, which patterns to use and how to size them.  The class is geared toward quilt making with a rotary cutter and a sewing machine, but some hand piecing instruction will be included and much of the information is the same for either method.  You will learn the basic square, half square, flying geese, and quick-pieced 4-patch units.  Students will then make a medium square, lap quilt, or table runner, using the two basic blocks learned in class.  Variations will be included.  Instructions will take you through the batting, hand quilting and binding.  You CAN learn to quilt in six lessons!   Please bring your own sewing machine and manual (a limited number of machines may be available for class use).

Learn to Sew!
Learn to sew in this 6-week series that includes Sewing I (Tote Bag); Sewing II (Apron), Sewing III (Skirt) and Sewing IV (Special Projects Workshop). See below for specific class information. Limited to 6 students. Please bring your own sewing machine and manual (a limited number of machines may be available for class use).

Class Fee: $200 for the 6-week class
Supplies: Supplies are included for Sewing I.  A materials list will be provided by the instructor at the first class for students to purchase their own supplies for Sewing II - IV.

Learn to Sew includes these classes:

Sewing I:  Introduction to Sewing
In this two-part course, students will learn the basics of sewing (threading a machine, sewing seams, backstitching, and turning corners) while making a tote bag in this class.   

Sewing II: Basic Pattern Reading
Make a simple apron while learning the basics of reading commercial patterns. 

Sewing III: Making a Fitted Garment
Make a fitted skirt or other fitted garment of your choice while learning about body measurements, darts, zippers, more advanced pattern reading, and sewing on a hook & eye. 

Sewing IV - Special Project
In this two-part course, students may work on a project of their choosing, using a pattern and skills developed in the previous classes.  Pants, handbags, aprons, and pillows are examples of appropriate projects. 

Individual Sewing Lessons
Want to learn to sew or expand your sewing base, but not yet ready for the full 6-week class?  This class is the perfect solution for you. These inidividual classes are taught one-on-one with an instructor and teach you everything you need to complete one project of your choosing. Classes can be combined/ continued depending on your project.  Sample projects include car seat covers, aprons, pillows, children's clothing, etc.
